Two Years, Two Kids, a Studio, and a Dream. Welcome to Powerhaus Pilates.
I started a Pilates studio just over two years ago, and I want to be very clear that at no point during this process did I think, this is going to be easy. But I also did not fully anticipate the specific chaos of building something from scratch while also being a mom and a wife and a person who still needs to eat dinner and occasionally sleep.
And yet. Here we are. Two years in. Still standing. Core engaged. Mostly.
Let’s Go Back to the Beginning, Because It’s a Good Story
Before Powerhaus, I was teaching at Club Pilates. Early mornings, back to back classes, the kind of schedule where you set your alarm and then immediately question every decision you’ve ever made and then get up anyway because you love this work and also people are counting on you.
I knew I wanted more than a franchise could offer. More depth, more intention, more of the full-apparatus Pilates that Joseph Pilates actually designed: the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, spine corrector, and many accessory apparatus, working together in a system of movements. So I found a small space inside Powell Fitness in Powell, OH and I set up shop.
Small is a generous word for what that space was. It was, in the most loving possible terms, a room built for approximately one and a half people. My clients showed up anyway. Bless them, truly.
And then, in 2024, I spent a good portion of the year teaching Pilates while very pregnant with my second child. In a room built for one and a half people. I’ll let you do that math. My clients navigated around me with the patience and spatial grace of people who genuinely loved what we were doing together and were not going to let large equipment and a third trimester stand in their way. That’s not a client base. That’s a community. And I didn’t fully understand the difference until I had it.
The Work. Always the Work.
Here’s the thing I need you to understand about Powerhaus, because it’s the thing that has never changed and never will.
This isn’t trendy Pilates. This isn’t let’s-put-on-a-playlist-and-vibe Pilates. This is the method the way Joseph Pilates intended it. At Powerhaus, Pilates is precise, purposeful, built around your body specifically and what it needs. The Reformer work. The Cadillac work. The kind of full-apparatus Pilates that most people in Dublin, Ohio and the broader Columbus area have genuinely never experienced because most studios aren’t set up to offer it. We offer Pilates that is consistent, quiet, adn thoughtfull crafted. Giving you Power Beneath The Surface.
What that work does, quietly and consistently over time, is change people. Backs stop hurting. Posture shifts. Bodies that felt foreign start to feel like home. Feeling progress every single week.
That part doesn’t evolve. That part is the foundation.
But Here’s What Did Evolve
What I started to notice was that my clients needed each other.
There’s this thing that happens when you’re doing something genuinely hard, like a short box series on the Reformer when your hamstrings are staging a full protest, and there’s someone next to you who is also suffering. You make eye contact and you both start laughing because, what else are you going to do? That moment cannot happen in a private session. That moment is community. That moment is the built-in support system that I didn’t know my clients were missing until I saw what happened when they finally had it.
So this year, Powerhaus packed up shop, moved to Dublin to launch semi-private group equipment classes. Capped at four students each lesson, full apparatus selection, and an instructor who is watching every body with attention and detail.
We notice.
If you’ve been looking for Pilates in Dublin, Ohio that is authentic traditional Pilates, more than just Reformer classes, more than just mat work, inclusive small group instruction that doesn’t treat you like one of fourteen people in a room — this is the thing I built for you. And I am very glad you found it.
The Open House. And The Coffee. Mostly The Coffee.
To celebrate the launch we threw open the doors for our Open Haus at our new studio location and it was genuinely wonderful and I loved every minute of it but also I need to talk about the coffee.

We had bottled Laneway Coffee for each person who came through the door. Alex and Alyssa. A mobile coffee cart run by two healthcare workers who said you know what, we’d also like to be in the coffee business, and just did it. I feel that in my soul.
I am not being dramatic when I tell you I still think about that coffee. I think about it the way you think about a really good meal you had on vacation three years ago that no meal since has quite lived up to. It was that good.
Here they are in their own words, because honestly nobody tells the Laneway story better than Laneway:
“Hi! We are Alex and Alyssa, owners of Laneway Coffee, a mobile coffee cart specializing in coffee event catering and community pop-ups intended to bring delicious coffee all over Columbus. While we both work in healthcare during the week, our passion for excellent coffee led us to starting Laneway Coffee, with the goal of elevating what coffee can mean in different event spaces. Alex is from Melbourne, Australia, a city riddled with beautiful graffiti-covered Laneways that are dotted with cafe’s, restaurants, and shopping. Your next best flat white is always right around the corner, and we wanted to bring that experience to Columbus. While we love serving our hand-crafted drinks at corporate events, weddings, showers, and parties, we have most enjoyed our time popping up at places like Bear’s Bagels, Honest Friend Brewing, and Watershed Distillery, giving the local community a chance to meet us and try our Aussie-Inspired creations. We also do fun things like pre-bottled latte drop offs! We would love to bring our cart to your next event to help elevate your guests experience, or simply have you swing by to one of our pop-ups! Follow us on Instagram @lanewaycoffeecart for our pop-up dates, or inquire about our catering services on our website lanewaycoffeecart.com“
Go find them immediately. Tell them Powerhaus sent you. Tell them we are still thinking about the vanilla oat milk latte.
So What’s Next
There are partnerships brewing with other wellness businesses in the Dublin and Columbus area, because I truly believe that the best version of your wellness life is not a single studio. It’s Pilates and community and good coffee and showing up for yourself on the days it’s convenient and also the days it absolutely isn’t.
I have plans. Big ones. Long term ones.
Two Years. And We’re Just Getting Started.
To the clients who found Powerhaus Pilates in Powell, Ohio when it was just me and a few pieces of equipment in a small room, you are the whole reason any of this means anything.
We have real space now. Real Pilates. A Cadillac/tower, a Reformer for everyone, and room to actually move your body.
Come move with us. We saved you a spot.
